A-Roid
It's been a bad decade for baseball. I mean really, really bad. It started with the Mark McGuire and Sammy Sosa Home Run Derby. Which is about as exciting as the sport got in the last 20 years. But then it was ruined by learning that both were indeed juicing it up with steroids. Then the Mitchell Report sent shockwaves through baseball as star after star were accused of using steroids, including one of the greates pitchers of all time, Roger Clemens. And also the home run king, Barry Bonds. And now, one of the greatest players of all time. Alex Rodriguez also used steroids.
In a league plagued by steroids. Can you really blame the guy? I mean if somebody was flashing a huge check in your face, wouldn't you do anything to make that check get a little bigger. That's A-Rod's excuse. He also puts a lot of the reason for using it on playing for the greatest team in baseball the New York Yankees. Although he is ashamed of doing it. He didn't deny it like every other accused player. He came out and admitted to using steroids. And for that I give the man credit.
But that doesn't mean he should go unpunished. And the one in charge of the punishing is MLB commish, Bud Selig. Selig is taking this issue very seriously and is contemplating not only a suspension, but also an editing of the record books.
I'm not really concerned about A-Roid's future, as much as I am concerned about baseball. Is this the last straw for baseball as a whole?
